Many people think that just by lessening their food intake, they will lose weight. Yes, maybe that will work for some people but if you do not couple this with exercise, then you will end up with flabby arms, stomachs and legs. A toned body sounds much better right? Well, a healthy body is even better. Make it a point that your diet won't make you prone to diseases. Carefully plan your weight loss plan and if possible, consult a doctor first before doing anything.

Although cutting down the calories is a good option, as long as you don't cut off the good calories, then you're all good. If you opt for a small glazed donut instead of eating a salad that has the equivalent calories, then you will definitely suffer in the long run. Also, if you just eliminate food altogether, then instead of losing weight, your body will switch to starvation mode. What happens is that your body stores fat and your metabolism will slow down. This is man's defense mechanism and if you trigger this by not eating, then keeping the weight off will be harder than hard.

As long as you keep an eye on what you put into your mouth, then you will definitely lose weight. Before munching on that third tasty piece of calorie laden pie, think of the consequences first. Maybe diabetes runs in the family? Or maybe you have to sweat it out for two hours in the gym just so you won't have bigger hips? When you think of the consequences before you eat something, you are less prone to doing something that you will regret. Also, when it comes to food, it doesn't hurt to be choosy. Don't just dive into the next salad you see. Some salads actually have the same calories as a healthy version of a burger. As long as it's steamed, boiled, baked, and lean, then that is safe to eat.

After sweating it out on the treadmill or the stationary bike, you should finish off any cardiovascular exercise with pumping up a few weights. A few minutes after your exercise session, your body is still burning calories so take advantage of this and use the dumbbells. The more muscle you have, the more calories you will burn. Also, contrary to what other people believe, muscle doesn't weigh more than fat. Muscle just happens to be more dense than fat.

Also, take advantage of low impact exercises. Swimming, rowing and other similar exercises are considered low impact. If you couple these exercises with activities that you love to do, like walking the dog or tending to the garden, then you will definitely keep the weight off. As long as you stick to a healthy diet and exercise regularly, then you don't have to worry about those extra pounds that could suddenly sneak in on you. Just remember to eat everything in moderation and don't starve yourself! As long as you always eat healthy foods and take the time and effort to exercise, then all will be well.
